The only reason I am able to review live shows for Moonalice more than any other band is because of the technology they’ve invested in, bringing nearly every live show they perform into your living room via http://www.moonaliceTV.com/. Literally, people from around the globe tune in to watch live Moonalice performances.
The last several dates on the Moonalice tour were in California, their home state, and today’s show (Sept 12) was in Marina del Rey at the Waterfront Concert Theatre. I love Marina del Rey and can just imagine what a beautiful afternoon it must have been out on the water. Yet….the Waterfront Concert Theatre was packed! Aside from the well-established set lists the Moonalice Tribe is accustomed to hearing, we have the privilege of feeling like being there and today shots of the audience were amazing. I don’t know his official title but, Glenn, the guy who makes sure the Livestream shows are broadcast at whatever cost, is an absolute gem!
The Livestream shows have a chat room where the Tribe signs in to talk about each and every show. From the Couch Tour and our Moonalice Quaterback positions we are able to see how many people are logged on to each show, then go out to Twitter and Facebook to remind friends “It’s showtime!” Glenn talks with those in the chat room as well to make sure the sound quality is good…and on occasion the Tribe lets him know if things are blipping out. As we all are keenly aware techie blips are an unstoppable nightmare. Today the chat stream was frozen for a while…not Glenn’s fault mind you. I am certain there are times the man absolutely sweats bullets working with this complex system of technology.
While the chat stream was frozen the music was coming through very clearly, but the phone rang, then my daughter came home from a weekend trip to The Gorge where, Ann McNamee, of Moonalice performed with Lilith Fair earlier this summer.
And wouldn’t you know, my all time fave Moonalice song, “Gwendolyn,” written by Roger McNamee was performed in the midst of my household comings and goings. Moonalice doesn’t include this tune all that often, so I’m always pleased to hear them perform what I believe is a brilliant piece of work. Worst part for me….the Tribe said it was one of the best performances ever! GAH! So, so, sorry I missed it. If you’ve never heard the tune, please listen here via Moonalice Radio: “Gwendolyn” – 3/28/2010 http://bit.ly/drO1sf. One of the most hauntingly beautiful contemporary ballads I’ve heard in some time.
Their tour schedule at www.Moonalice.com says the 5-piece band with heavily influenced legendary rock roots, is traveling to the east coast next week. New Jersey seems to be a well-anticipated show…please check the website for details.
I’m including Scout’s New Jersey license plate dedicated to one of the most involved of all the Moonalice Tribe, John Smaron. You won’t find a nicer guy who knows so much about music as John. This is the kind of community that is building up around Moonalice. They have heart and they have soul. They are all very decent human beings who care for and take care of one another whenever possible.
